Who We Are…

In 2008, the Chesapeake Church of Christ celebrated our 25th anniversary as a congregation. We are thankful to serve God and our neighbors in this community!

We are a non-denominational family of God made up of a diversity of people from varying backgrounds. Our unity is found in Jesus Christ and our common love for Him. As disciples of Jesus, we are striving to live out the Christianity of the New Testament in a 21st Century context. We are located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, but our members serve in God’s Kingdom throughout the mid-Shore region.

The Chesapeake Church of Christ is a self-governing congregation of Christians, currently of about 75 members. We are guided by elders, who shepherd the flock as servant-leaders. Our deacons are lead-servants in various areas of ministry. Our preacher teaches us and encourages us from God’s word to grow as disciples as Jesus and to reach out to others with the gospel.

While thankful for our leaders, we are a member empowered church! We are not simply church attenders but disciples of Jesus who are growing, active servants of His. We believe every Christian is gifted for ministry by the Holy Spirit, and we are thankful for all the things—big and small—that God does through His children. We are committed in serving the whole of man: physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We are active in spreading to the gospel to the lost, helping the needy locally, and supporting foreign missions. We are financially supported by the free-will gifts of our members.

As a biblically conservative people, we accept the Bible as the God-breathed will of our Creator, revealed to humans through Spirit-inspired writers. As such, the Scriptures are our exclusive source of authority in determining our beliefs, mission, and practices as individual and as a congregation.

We believe in the oneness and unity of Christ’s church. We simply desire to be Christians, like those one reads about in the Bible, yet serving in this contemporary time and place. We want to help people find new life though Christ, grow in Him, and find their place of service in His Kingdom for the blessing of others.

If you desire to become a member, we encourage you to speak to one of our elders or our preacher. We believe, in one sense, church membership is a matter between you and God, as He personally adds to His church all those who accept Christ as Lord by faith, repentance, and baptism. We invite anyone who desires to become a Christian to participate in a study of God’s word in order to hear the good news of Jesus Christ. Once you become a Christian, we invite you to commit to joining us in the family of God in this congregation to serve God and others.
